Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye is an staggeringly pretty place. It’s also a really long way away. We’re just back from a touring trip around the island, taking in some of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs on the way up and back again. Naturally, I filmed the whole thing and that’s being edited at the moment, but having gone quite big with the footage I took, it’s taking a while to work through.

The landscape is so breathtaking, almost literally rather than just figuratively. Some evenings I had to sit quietly just to process all the sights we’d seen – I can understand now why there’s a lot of hype around the highlands. The Isle of Skye does seem to sum up Scotland all on one island, incredible mountains, snow covered caps and all, port towns and villages and everything else you’d ever want from an outdoorsy holiday. It’s just the most beautiful place, which I got to share with the most beautiful people…

Wanderlust

It’s something I’ve been plagued with for a very long time. Plague is probably the wrong word, but you get the gist. This is what I’d like to do with my life, and to an extent that’s what we do. I can’t help feel that might not be in exactly the right balance as it is though. We need to be travelling far more.

Amsterdam 2017

This was our first real trip without Jasper, which seemed a bit odd leaving him in the UK while we swanned off to the Netherlands. That said, we had a bloody brilliant trip and managed to see loads of the city.

Ibiza 2017

Jasper hadn’t been abroad before, so we thought we’d better fix that sharpish. Ibiza was definitely up there in the holidays we’ve both been on, and it wasn’t in the slightest touristy like I’d thought it might have been. That said, we do swerve all the touristy stuff, and even in the stifling heat managed to end up on an adventure walking along the cliff tops, and getting lost in an arid desert type area.

It’s funny really, the bit of the holiday that everyone finds the most stressful is right at the airport where all the carnage takes place. This was definitely the worst part of the trip, with an awful company trying to swindle us out of the money we’d worked so hard to get us to Ibiza. Anyway, after sacking them off, here are the best bits…

Wales 2016

So this was the first trip in now what has become a bit of a tradition in our house – the boxing day trip in the van. The plan is to climb in Astrid and see where we end up. The first image in the sequence is Jasper learning that Astrid is finally back on the road!

Paris 2016

The dreaded trip to Disneyland, or at least… dreaded for me. I’m not much a fan of the commercial side of travel and much prefer to do the more adventurous side of travel. That said, Mandy wanted to go and as I’m sure you’ll imagine – Jasper wanted to go too despite only being three at the time. Here’s how we told him, the very same night we were leaving…

As this was us, we didn’t do it the usual way. We both finished work and set straight off for the tunnel. Even at the time it was a four hour drive to get there on time. Arriving in Dover, we waited an hour for our slot, and from there it was a simple 30 minutes in the train while we made our way under the North Sea. Once into France we headed straight over to Disneyland Paris where we arrived for opening time at 09:00am. After a day in Disneyland we headed over to a local campsite where we had a pretty rubbish time with food and mozzies, where after a beer I was out like a light after being up for 36 hours straight. Next morning was a trip to Paris centre where we hopped on a train and spent the day absorbing all things French, and then come 17:00 it was another long trip through the night home. Here’s the best bits.
